Carboxytherapy
Carboxytherapy is a non-surgical procedure that is mainly designed to treat sagging skin on the eyelids and eye contour, but also on the face, neck, neckline and chin. It can also be used on other parts of the body, such as the arms, thighs and stomach area.
The technique involves injecting tiny quantities of medical grade carbon dioxide into the skin using very fine needles. CO2 is a highly soluble substance that easily infiltrates into surrounding tissue, increasing blood flow and hence oxygenation. Improving oxygen supply promotes optimum hydration. Fibroblast (skin cell) activity is also boosted, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production. Improvement in skin texture and firmness can be seen as early as the first few sessions and visible results can last for more than a year.
To reassure patients, Dr Raspaldo would like to point out that this technique is totally safe and given that CO2 is a gas that is naturally produced by the body, there is absolutely no risk of allergy. Once injected, it is rapidly absorbed and evacuated from the body via the respiratory system. In fact CO2 has been used for a number of years in laparoscopic surgery and in spa treatments for over 30 years.
A typical course of treatment is one session per week for 5 to 10 weeks.
